Fiat has confirmed it is extending the 500 range with the Fiat 500X SUV and will build a new small Jeep crossover on the same platform. We’ve just had the first extension of the 500 range arrive in the UK in the guise of the Fiat 500L (complete with 500L ‘Motherhood’ rap), but the 500L range isn’t going to end there. Following on from a sneak peek at a probable future Fiat 500X SUV back in July, Fiat has now confirmed it is going to put the rufty-tufty version of the 500 in to production and will build it alongside a new baby Jeep crossover – based on the same underpinnings – at its Melfi factory in Italy.

Munich hopes that this will conquer new mini-MPV territory: the BMW 2-series Active Tourer. It’s the production version of the BWW Concept Active Tourer we first saw back in 2011, and the undisguised version of the car we scooped earlier in 2013. The name will be 'Active Tourer'-suffixed, not '2-series GT' as previously thought. The purists might shout loudly, but money talks, and there’s huge demand for a BMW-badged family car at more mainstream prices.
Rendered speculation on the Subaru FT-86
Toyota brought the FT-86 – a 2 door coupe concept that may well see the return of the Celica name – to the Tokyo Motor Show this month. Designed to be an affordable coupe – and designed in collaboration with Subaru – it looks a promising new car. But we’ve seen no real detail on the other part of the equation – the Subaru FT-86 (know internally as the 216A).
